As Ladins, we are very conscious of our traditions and proud of our myths about the origins of the fabulous mountains of the Dolomites. This is why our apartments bear the names of several heroes and characters from famous Dolomite legends.

Gana (lad. enchanted fairy) is a good-natured female figure from the legendary world of the Dolomites, who, as a creature of the mountains, always lived in harmony with wild nature and was at home in the forests. She was happy to tell fascinating stories about the mountains.

Moltina came to the Braies Dolomites, north of Cortina, as a young girl and was raised as an orphan there by Anguàna, one of the many forest and water women who can be found in the mountains and lakes. She spent much of her childhood with marmots.

Salvan (lad. forest men) was a tall, sullen man with a long beard who lived in the mountains of the Val di Fassa. He wrapped himself in thick fur to protect himself from the cold and found refuge in dark caves. He knew all the secrets of the forest and its inhabitants.

Dragun (lad. dragon), it is believed that dragons lived in several lakes in the Dolomites. They flew from mountain to mountain and their fearsome roar could be heard from afar. They often guarded hidden treasures and were involved in bloody fights.

Bracun, also known as Gran Bracun, was a knight. He lived as a castle captain at Andraz Castle in Livinallongo in Col di Lana. According to legend, he killed a dragon that lived in a cave near Sas dla Crusc /Sasso di Santa Croce which had terrorised the population of Val Badia.

Stria (lad. witch), the colourful world of Dolomite legends is shaped with heroes with good and evil spirits. Witches and wizards also played an important role in the creation of this magical nature. The most famous legend of the Dolomites relates to the kingdom of Fanes.

Spina de Mul was a feared sorcerer who carried out his mischief as a half-decayed donkey. In a famous display of deceit, Spina de Mul took Dolasilla’s infallible arrows, which ultimately lead to her death - the end of the battle for the Fanes people

Dolasilla was the daughter of the mighty king of the Fanes kingdom. As a clever warrior of the Dolomites, this beautiful, brave princess always accompanied her father on his adventures and was most recently crowned by him with the magnificent Raietta.
